Accessories
Bike lights, luggage systems, mudguards, D-locks and cycle helmets
A range of practical and essential accessories is always kept in stock and can be fitted to your bike at the time of purchase, or retro-fitted to your existing bike. Please note that you cannot just pop in and buy these, we run an appointments system so please give us a call first.
Used luggage racks from £10, brand new luggage racks from £20
Lightweight aluminium luggage racks are available for both road bikes and mountain bikes, and we normally have a number of older steel racks for classic bicycles in stock. We also stock heavy duty tubular aluminium expedition luggage racks, priced at £30 each.

Wicker baskets and wire mesh baskets from £15 to £35
Classic wicker baskets and modern steel mesh versions are available in various sizes and shapes, costing £14 and upwards for one which is permanently attached to the bicycle, or £25 for one with an integrated carrying handle which is easily removable from the bike at the press of a button for use as a shopping basket.

Panniers from £24
Both standard synthetic canvas panniers (£24 each or £48 for a pair) and fully waterproof panniers (£35 each of £70 for a pair) are kept in stock as well as front lowrider panniers, bar bags and some second-hand panniers when available.
Mudguards for road and mountain bikes, from £10 (used) or from £20 (new)
A range of mudguards is available, from plastic clip-on guards for mountain bikes to full-length SKS touring mudguards for your road bike, tourer or commuter. For those who prefer recycled products we normally have a number of used mudguards available as well.
LED Bike Lights from £6 (rear) or from £12 (pair)
Only LED (light-emitting diode) bicycle lights are sold at Jake's Bikes: battery life is measured in months rather than weeks, you'll never suffer a broken light bulb again, and they are much brighter and more visible than old-style lights. And nowadays LED lights are so cheap that there really is no point in using anything else.

D-locks from £25 to £40
We always recommend D-locks over cable locks: even thick armoured cable locks can be cut in a matter or seconds by any thief with a pair of bolt croppers. If used properly a good quality D-lock is much harder to break - and we only sell quality locks. Click here (PDF document - 45KB) to read more about how to lock your bike properly.

Bike helmets from £20
We stock a small range of cycle helmets. As well as standard £20 helmets, we also have XXL helmets for people who just can't find a large enough one anywhere else, and women-specific designs.
High-visibility safety gear
Fluorescent jackets, belts, ankle-wraps and arm bands are at least as important as lights when it comes to ensuring your safety in city traffic. A range of hi-vis safety gear is kept in stock, from £3 arm bands to £7 fluorescent vests.
Puncture repair kits and pumps
Almost all the tyres we sell are puncture resistant, making flats a pretty rare occurrence. However, we have a small selection of repair kits in stock priced around £2.50 each, as well as a comprehensive range of inner tubes and a number of bicycle pumps priced between £5 and £25.

Chain Oil and Lubricants from £3.50 to £5.00
As well as standard 'wet' and 'dry' chain lubricants, eco Green Oil is also available, made entirely from natural materials. Awarded 9/10 by Mountain Biking UK and a Gold Award by What Mountain Bike.
Conventional 'wet' oil is probably a good choice for most uses but can attract dust and dirt if too much is applied - please click here for tips on correct lubrication of your chain. The alternative 'dry' oil is thinner and dries soon after it is applied, leaving a low-friction coating (e.g. Teflon) on the chain which does not get dirty but is easily washed off by rain or mud, so must be reapplied more frequently and is only really suitable for summer use. Green Oil is somewhere between the two: a more environmentally friendly option which lubricates the chain well but which washes off quite easily and so must be reapplied more frequently than other wet oils.
