More About Jake's Bikes
Not just another bike shop
Jake's Bikes is a bicycle workshop based in Bristol, UK. We aim to do things a little differently: we offer sensible and affordable bicycle servicing and repairs (and unlike many shops we're keen on older and less fashionable bikes!), we buy and sell used bikes (with strict anti-theft precautions), and provide tuition and training to help you maintain your own bike. The emphasis is on repairs and servicing in addition to retail - this is primarily a workshop and not a trendy high street bike shop.
The focus of our work is sustainability: helping as many people as possible to lead a greener and healthier lifestyle by encouraging and enabling them to cycle, or cycle more. We believe in making it easy, fun, reliable, affordable and normal to cycle every day, without having to be an athlete or bike enthusiast.
We are entirely independent and do not receive any external funding, grants or loans. To keep things simple we're not registered as a charity or a cooperative, but we run the business as a not-for-profit organisation: it pays our wages (just about!) but does not exist to make money and does not have shareholders or external investors. To learn a little more about the background to Jake's bikes please see this article published in Boneshaker Magazine in May 2010.
"The staff are friendly, honest and open. I felt I could talk about what I wanted without a barrage of sales pitches."
Robin Lovelace, Bristol - 30th May 2008
