Brand New Bikes
Jake's Bikes now sells new bikes as well as used
Monday 11 May 2009
Jake's Bikes now has a number of exciting new bikes in stock including Mongoose, Merida and Summer Bikes, and we can order any other bike from these ranges with less than a week from order to delivery. The Mongoose range includes some practical Men's and Women's hybrid bikes, Merida offer some sportier urban commuter bikes, and Summer cater specifically for Women looking for a more traditional shopping bike style but with good, modern gears and brakes. As with our used bikes, any of the range of new bikes can be customised and adapted to suit your needs, for example with the addition of mudguards, luggage rack, or high handlebars.
The decision to start selling brand new bikes alongside our recycled range was not an easy one. Jake's Bikes has always been keen on repair and reuse, and in some ways the idea of selling brand new consumer goods goes against what we stand for. But we believe that now is the right time to start selling new bikes for several reasons:
We have been unable to fulfil all requests for used bikes, and recently we have had to turn away more people than we have served. Having new bikes in stock will ease this problem considerably.
Thanks to the increased interest in cycling, especially in Bristol, there are fewer second hand bicycles available to us. It has become difficult to find enough second hand bikes to buy and repair, and their prices have gone up.
Certain types of bikes, particularly smaller hybrids and women's bikes, are more difficult to find on the second hand market. Stocking new bikes will allow us to cater better for customers who need these types of bikes.
We will continue to sell our fully reconditioned and serviced recycled bikes alongside the range of brand new models, appealing in particular to customers on a lower budget (recycled bikes typically range in price from £125 to £195). We will of course heed our own advice on price and specification and sell only top quality new bikes for not less than £250 - as you can read here, anything less is simply a false economy.
